BRAIN FITNESS

BRAIN FITNESS OVERVIEW

Like physical fitness, brain fitness can be improved by various challenging activities such as playing chess or bridge, dancing regularly, practicing yoga and tai chi and also by engaging in more structured computer based workouts.

Healthy lifestyle habits such as mental stimulation, physical exercise, good nutrition, stress management, cognitive challenges and sleep are all a benefit to the brain.

Benefits of improving your brain fitness are improved memory, attention, concentration, executive functions, decision-making, mental flexibility, and other core capabilities.

Some research shows that brain stimulation can help prevent age-related cognitive decline, reverse behavioral assessment declines in dementia and Alzheimer’s, and can also improve normally functioning minds.

YOUR INSPIRATION... JULIE PEREZ

A perfect example of this is our very own Body Proud Community member, Julie Perez.

Julie was once paralyzed and is now "Body Proud"! She actually surpassed doctors expectations to even survive and then went further and relearned how to speak, dress herself, think, walk AND THEN went on to even compete as a beautiful FAME Fitness Model just 2 years later!!! WOW!!

Below is a photo of Julie and her story as picked up by Florida's largest newspaper.

There you have it. Julie is living proof that anyone can improve their brain and change their life forever. It's all in the mind! Let Julie be your source of inspiration!!

If order to have excellent overall health, you must have brain as well as physical fitness. The total package is not complete unless you have a stable mind that complements your amazing physique. That is what brain fitness is all about.

After suffering a major brain hemorrhage and undergoing a 9 hr surgical procedure to remove an AVM in my brain in June2010, I know exactly what it is like to have to totally reprogram your brain. firstly due to the stroke, i was paralyzed in my left side and had to learn to walk again, it was like being a toddler all over again.

Emotionally for months after I was like an angry, frustrated child trying to find his way in life, i have suffered severe paranoia(i thought someone was trying to kill me in hospital), depression knocked me for 6 and i have cried enough tears to fill a dam! As i have progressively got better and become totally fascinated with the brain and how it works, i have learnt new mindful techniques that will help to keep my mind fit and healthy swell as my body. Through, NLP, meditation, anger management, OTSAR and relaxation techniques I have finally begun to appreciate how valuable having the healthy body/mind balance really is.

I meditate twice a day, listen to relaxation and confidence Cd's, read as much as possible, total body fitness........No S**t!!

I would recommend DEFO!! but not the hemorrhage bit.

Brain fitness is what you need to have "the complete package". The complete package involves a sound mind and body.....that is total body  fitness.

Brain fitness is just as important as body fitness......You  cannot  have one without the other.

If you are interested in learning what Brain Fitness means, this book is an excellent resource. "The Sharp Brains Guide to Brain Fitness," http://www.sharpbrains.com/book/

Although many people relate it to meaning having a postive attitude etc., it is a field of science that delves into the health of the brain at the scientific level.

Book Description:

It would be great to have this discussion in terms of the scientific findings and applications relating to this topic.

My research covers cognitive decline and Alzheimer's disease as it relates to lifestyle, poor diabetes management and prevalence rates in Hispanics. To learn more feel free contact me or ask questions here.

Thank you and have a fit day!!

Improve your mind by being optimistic. When you have positive thoughts, that affects your mental and sometimes your physical condition. No matter what your circumstances, always remain positive and keep your head up.

I just went shopping at Sellers Brothers and I bought a great deal of healthy food for just $55.00. I bought plenty of fruits and vegetables, plus Dannon yogurt, three loaves of wheat bread, and other items. Be a smart shopper when you go to the supermarket.

Tonight I am having white boiled rice, refried beans, two slices of fish, two slices of wheat bread, onions, a large glass of milk, and a glass of water. I also put hot sauce on my food. Have a great weekend.

Improve your mind by being optimistic. If you have a positive attitude it will affect your physical health. Keep your head up, chest out, stomach in, and stay positive.
